Support - Applet Failed to Load

If you went to a web page that has one of the Godtland Software games or puzzles on it and instead of showing you the game or puzzle it displays a big blank box with maybe a red "X" in it, the applet may have failed to load.

Here are some things that you might try to help you to successfully load the applet:

  1. It may have timed out while trying to load the applet. Sometimes just trying to load it again will work. To do this, click the browser's refresh button. If that doesn't help, it may be that your browser is refreshing the page without trying to reload the applet file. In that case, you may need to close all your existing browser windows, open a new browser window then try to go to the page with the applet again.
  2. IF THAT DOESN'T WORK: Applets are Java programs. You have to have Java enabled in your browser for applets to run. Verify that you have Java enabled. If you are using Netscape you may find this option at Edit / Preferences / Advanced. Make sure that you have the option to Enable Java selected. If you are using Internet Explorer, you may find this option at Tools / Internet Options / Advanced. Scroll down to the Java section and make sure you have Java selected. If you do not have a Java section, move on to the next possible solution below. If you have a browser other than Netscape or Internet Explorer, search through your browser's options to find where the option is for enabling Java.
  3. IF THAT DOESN'T WORK: Do you have Java installed on your computer? Netscape comes with Java. Not all versions of Internet Explorer come with Java. If you do not have Java installed, you may Download Java for free and follow their instructions for installing Java.
  4. IF THAT DOESN'T WORK: It is possible that you have a firewall or a pop up blocker that is preventing the applet from loading. However, it is beyond the scope of this document for how to work with your firewall or popup blocker. Please contact your network administrator or refer to your own documentation if you believe either of these is what is preventing the applet from loading.
